Online Courses To Keep NSmen Abreast Of Military Technology By Extending ICT Time Virtually

BUKIT GOMBAK, SINGAPORE -- National Servicemen can now keep up with latest changes in military technology and training, with 2 online courses launched by SAFTIMI. The courses prepare NSmen for in-camp training even before they are in-processed for the in-camp training. Before they start their in-camp training, NSmen, using special passwords and security clearance, can log on to the specially created sites, which can only be accessed by those undergoing the course. "This is the most innovative way to extend the 40 days maximum of in-camp training, virtually. As logging onto the web at home do not count as part of the 40 days limit." said the Defense Ministry spoke-person. It is also learnt that NSmen who do not logon to the online courses before their in-camp training will be charged for Absent Without Online Leave.

Big Brother Is Watching

KENT RIDGE CRESCENT, SINGAPORE -- Researchers from the Faculty of Science at NUS have announced a new security monitor that "predicts mathematically" whether people are contemplating illegal acts even before they commit them. The system, designed by Steve Ma and David Hong, graduating students at the faculty, watches for the "different behaviors" of people contemplating "suspicious" activity and alerts security guards. Meanwhile, at NA Polytechnic, a new x-ray machine to be installed in airports that allows operators to scan people -- and look through their clothing -- is under fire. System designer Raymond Kee defended the controversial machine. "People object to being physically touched. In response to that we brought in the scanners," he said.

Viewing-Baby Service From Medical Center

Medical Center has started a new service for parents of babies who need special care and cannot leave the hospital together with their mothers. The service called Viewing-Baby, allows parents to log on to a website to view their babies online. For the first three months, Viewing-Baby will be free. Medical Center said it will charge a fee later but has not decided how much this will be. Insider tipped that the charge could be around $50 per minute. "This is excellent! Finally I get the chance to ensure that the nurses do not abuse my baby." claimed Mrs. Carol Cheung, a mother-to-be. "I think I can make use of this opportunity to check out the nurses too. IT definitely cheaper than some of the pornography website available." said Mr. Les Cheung, husband of Mrs. Carol Cheung. Medical Center also indicated that this service will also be extended to the parent of illegitimate babies for a fee of $500 per minute.
