Senior Citizens' Week - "Life Begins To Suck At 60!"
TAMPINES,
SINGAPORE -- "Life begins to suck at 60!" - this
is the message that the Ministry wants to convey to the elderly during
this year's Senior Citizens' Week. At the launch
of the campaign, its minister called for the older generation to remain
engaged in society through volunteerism. By having this group of citizens to fill up some
of the roles taken up by the younger generation or foreign labor would
enable the country to save up to $10 billion a year, added the minister.
This saving comes in the form of volunteered unpaid labor in areas such
as childcare, gardening, area cleaning, politics and show business.
"Instead of cheap labor we can have free labor! If more senior
citizens volunteer to take up these responsibilities, we will be able to
save up to $10 billion a year!" said the minister.
